In the upcoming review of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Mexico plans to advocate for the removal of tariffs on steel and automobiles imposed by the United States. Alongside this, the Mexican government aims to push for enhanced investment protections, improved economic security measures, and mechanisms to prevent unilateral trade actions that could disrupt the market.

President Claudia Sheinbaum has conveyed optimism about the renewal of the trade agreement for another 16 years, despite the U.S. decision to initiate annual reviews until 2036. Sheinbaum’s confidence underscores Mexico’s commitment to maintaining balanced trade relations and bolstering economic integration across North America.

The USMCA remains active; however, ongoing disputes over tariffs and the implementation of annual reviews have introduced a level of uncertainty for businesses and investors throughout the region. These factors have heightened concerns about the stability and predictability of trade conditions.

In its discussions with Washington, Mexico has consistently emphasized the importance of resolving trade issues while fostering a cooperative environment that supports economic growth and integration in North America. As the review of the trade pact approaches, Mexico is poised to address these concerns to ensure a more stable and equitable trading landscape.
